Many vision disorders are treated with spectacles. Spectacles may correct a refractive error ( prescription glasses usually prescribed for short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism) or they may be supportive glasses which may be prescribed for binocular vision or near disorders to alleviate a strained visual system. Some vision disorders can be treated with vision therapy whereby the optometrist prescribes eye exercises which are designed to rectify the vision disorder.
